[Digital-Mentor] Updates, etc

David

The EOI that has been submitted by NAVCA (summarised I hope on the bid neutral digitalmentor.org site) will be seeking to identify existing mentors and their skillsets as well as to train new mentors.

Together this network would offer peer support and be available in their own area - or maybe travelling across the country if that was required, to offer face to face mentoring to other communities that have been identified (not sure if this will be CLG or 'communities-own' led) as prime beneficiaries.
Digital Initiatives, such as those DC10plus have established that can be 'productised' would be available to roll out as a complete package with support from a mentor or through local training for someone from within a community to become a mentor.

I am a big fan of G-Maps and could see this figuring as part of the answer - the map we have of CVS/LIOs using social media is a good example of maybe where interest is centred now - http://watfordgap.wordpress.com/using-web-20/

Whilst I think any DMing activity should be based on areas of need and instances of multiple deprivation first, rather than where the DM skills lie ... having a ready to hand map of who can do what and where they are is a great idea and would help CLG and any bidder to this process!

Hi Dave - thanks for the roundup. On your last point about what's happening already ... how can we map and encourage existing on-the-ground activity?

How easy would it be to enable a self-registering bottom-up EOI for digital mentors and DM projects, so we ended up with a G-map? Then bidders could for demonstrator partners, and DCLG could think about how to cultivate the whole landscape.

Hi all

A few bits to update people on:

1) The Expressions of interest should now have been submitted. The
Voicebox team have posted theirs on their blog:
http://voice-box.org.uk/2008/11/25/expression-of-interest-submitted/
and it sounds like NAVCA are bidding too, if Paul Webster's tweet is
anything to go by ;-) http://twitter.com/watfordgap/status/1024404246
Anyone else? There is a blog post here if you want to let people know:
http://digitalmentor.org/2008/11/expressions-of-interest-submitted/

2) Helen Milner also points on on Voicebox
http://voice-box.org.uk/2008/11/15/welcome-to-voicebox/#comment-10
that the bid deadline has been shifted to mid January from the end of
December, which seems sensible - many of us commented that the
timeframe seemed ludicrously tight originally. There are some slides
to look at with this and other information:
http://www.communities.gov.uk/documents/communities/pdf/1069584.pdf

3) Another plug for Stuart's great idea of the short videos answering
the question WTF are digital mentors? See
http://digitalmentor.org/2008/11/what-is-a-digital-mentor/ We need
some more of these - I'll be doing mine soon. Who else is up for it?

4) It would be interesting to hear from people as to their thoughts
about the whole digital mentor project after the meeting at CLG? Nick,
Paul and I wonder aloud about this here:
http://digitalmentor.org/2008/11/more-video/ Does anyone else have
some thoughts? I would be especially interested to hear from those who
are already 'doing' digital mentoring in one way or another - can you
see the project changing things for you at all?

Cheers everyone - let's keep the conversation going!

Dave
